Commonly Asked Questions

Will karate help me to lose weight?
YES! Our classes are designed to help everyone get into better shape, lose weight if needed and improve your flexibility. As you begin your training, each class will start out slow in this regard so you can gradually improve conditioning. As your knowledge increases so does the workout increase to continue to improve your physical conditioning and overall health.

How many classes per week can I attend?
In the beginning we recommend 2 classes per week. As your knowledge increases you will be able to attend as many classes as you want per week at NO EXTRA CHARGE.

Are Classes mixed with Children and Adults?
We have both. We offer family classes that allows children and adults the opportunity to train together and we have classes that are for teen and adults only. You decide which classes you want to attend.

Is there any religious teaching involved in our karate programs?

NO! There is NO religious teaching in our Karate program. Though there are some similar concepts, such as trying to be a good person, treating others with respect, truth, honor and so on.
We are practicing a Japanese art. A bow in Japan is a show of respect, similar to our handshake or military salute here in this country. Kneeling in Japan is like sitting in our country. Kneeling and bowing is simply a show of respect from a sitting position. (For additional information on this subject read our paper on bowing).

How long will it take to earn a Black Belt?

This depends on how old the student is when they start. Regardless of age, there is a minimum of four years of continuous training for students that have never trained in the Martial Arts. Young children will take longer. For a child to reach Junior Black Belt, generally the student must be 12 years of age.
Even though it is our goal for every student to achieve their black Belt, our standards are high. Earning a Wado Karate Black Belt takes a lot of work and effort.

How long will it take for a student to be able to defend him or herself?

Of course this varies from student to student. Personality traits greatly influence this. Wado karate training improves the odds for all students to defend themselves. The longer and harder a student trains, the better chance they will have to be able to defend themselves.

Does the training floor and equipment make a difference in Karate training?

YES! Our special mat floor will help to prevent many joint or back problems and offers maximum protection in case of a fall.

We hope we have answered your questions and that you are ready to begin your journey into the wonderful world of Wado Karate and Martial arts. We are committed to making this a fun, safe, educational
And life changing experience.
